Found Imagery

So, my Dad was looking through a box of old photos the other day and found a little negative envelope from the 70/80's. Inside was a single 35mm negative of my Great, great, great Grandfather Peter Shapiro. The only other time I've seen this photo was on my Grandpa's bookshelf in his old room back in CA. The story is that Peter was a Rabbi in Poland, and owned a butcher shop. Peter used to steal horses across the German (?) border and bring them back, and sell them as beef. So... Peter was a Rabbi and a Horse Thief. I really love my Jewish history even though I don't practice it, and technically didn't inherit it.

The quality's kinda bad, I think this is a photograph of a photograph. They didn't have 35mm film when Grandpa Peter was alive.

Takeuchi Taijin

This stop motion video by Takeuchi Taijin is really great. The dual movement really makes it (movement in the story, and in the apartment)

Two suggestions, watch it in HD and watch it all the way through. :-)

Nabbed this from: (BOOOOOOOOM!)

iPhone photo a day.

I'm taking an example from commercial photog super star Chase Jarvis and try to post an iphone photo a day, everyday. If I can. I'm not making any promises but I feel good about it. My criteria will be simple:

1. Must be taken with an iPhone exclusively.
2. Photo must only be edited with iPhone software.
3. No more than one photo a day.

Here's my start:

Avedon

I referenced Avedon in yesterday's post only to realize that I didn't have any of his books, then to simultaneously realize that I had received a 30% off coupon from borders that day.

Lookit what I got:

It's a collection of work he'd done between 1946 and 2004 (obviously) here's some of my favs:

Cutting hands off

I guess it's okay if I cut people's hands off. The master did it.

So I did...

Reasons why I'm not a good photographer.

I cut people's hands off.

Practice makes perfect however. I need to shoot with my 4x5 more. And watch people's hands, or things growing out of their heads. I want to be the next Renaldi.

p.s. it's blurry too. That's a really shitty picture.
I shot my hasselblad yesterday, I'm going to today too.

I love that camera sound.

An inspiration

I saw an old friend on IM the other day. Chris Weeks I met him on Deviant Art back when he was an admin and I cared what happened on that site. Now he's started writing a blog that I'd really reccomend taking a look at.

Chris is a street photography, and a fan of the Leica's (as we all should be) and his work is thick with his sharp wit and sarcasm. Here's some examples that I got off his blog, be sure to head over there and read his posts too.

Photos I want to take.

I don't really know what I want to do right now, but I know I want it to be like Richard Renaldi.

A blog to commemorate blogging again.

This post commemorates me wanting to blog more.
